New Bus Maintenance Facility, Expansion, and Renovation to Existing Building

The new building, built adjacent to the existing transit facility, consists of a single-storey steel structure with approx 93,500 sq ft of maintenance area and administration space. A concrete foundation was used with structural steel frame precast walls and a hydronic heating system. Other features include: 4 inspection pits, 20 bus hoists, fueling facilities, a bus wash, and large clerestory windows.

The second phase of the project is a single-storey steel structure addition to the existing building which provides approximately 21,225 sq ft of additional bus storage, a renovation to 91,500 sq ft of administration space and the conversion of the old maintenance area to bus storage.

This is an energy efficient/sustainable construction project and includes energy onserving mechanical and electrical equipment, fixtures and controls. The Region of Waterloo achieved LEED Gold Certification for this project.
