Fundraisers and Special Events

Melloul-Blamey is proud to announce our new fundraising initiative in collaboration with the Kitchener and Waterloo Fire Fighters and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. This initiative allows community members to support The Food Bank through non-perishable food and financial donations at all K-W fire stations, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

Melloul-Blamey has committed to providing financial and other support over the next three years. To reflect the larger sponsorship role Melloul-Blamey is taking on, we have outfitted our entire fleet of trucks with the Fire to Food Bank logo to raise awareness throughout the community, as well as running food donation challenges at participating Sobey's stores and encouraging our partners and staff to participate in Food Bank initiatives.

2015 initiatives

Take a look at some of the great initiatives we've supported in 2015.

Melloul-Blamey Construction is a proud sponsor of the Kitchener U14C Girls Soccer Team. They finished the regular season in first place with a record of 12-1-2. The team then went on to win the League Cup defeating their arch-rivals from Stratford.

Links for Hope

The 9th annual LINKS FOR HOPE golf tournament was held at Rebel Creek Golf Course in Petersburg on June 1st, 2013 where Melloul-Blamey was the title sponsor again this year.

This Event is an annual memorial charity golf tournament in memory of Hope Monaghan (2000 -2004), a special little girl who touched the lives of many people. She was diagnosed at 3yrs old with a rare brain tumor. During her year long battle with cancer, she was able to realize her dream of going to Disneyland along with her family thanks to the support of The Children's Wish Foundation.

This year's tournament raised over $16,000 for the foundation. Together these tournaments have raised $120,000 for Children's Wish Foundation.  Fulfilling a child's special wish provides a brief escape from the harsh reality of their illness. A wish can provide time for togetherness and much needed laughter, not only providing hope and strength to the child; it provides memories that will last a lifetime for the family.

Skate 48

The Rotary Club of Kitchener Grand River hosted the Great Skate 48 hockey tournament, on February 16th at the Kiwanis Pad at the Kitchener Auditorium. This one day tournament raised considerable dollars for Rotary's major cause, KidsAbility.  What's unique about this fund raiser is that each player has to secure pledges which are tallied and credited to their team for the cause. This means it is not simply another corporate cheque written by our firm but serious money raised by the individuals. Team Melloul-Blamey raised close to $3000 for the cause!

Gloves for Uganda

Melloul-Blamey answered an appeal for used gloves or boots which would serve as protection for the hands and feet of displaced citizens in Uganda Africa. They work in a stone quarry, smashing rocks against each other, earning a penny or two a day as they make crushed stone and gravel for construction needs. Many times these people would end up with cuts and scrapes which would become infected and eventually life threatening, due to the fact that they have little or no medical services and poor sanitation.  It has since been reported that they are SO HAPPY to have received this gift of several dozen pairs of new gloves.

Melloul-Blamey routinely loans Neil Aitchison, Senior Manager of Market Development, on company time as emcee for charitable fundraisers and special events. He worked with United Way, Stratford Festival and Drayton Entertainment for Spotlight on Goderich, a benefit concert which raised $100,000 to aid tornado victims.

Hosted by Neil Aitchison this one-of-a-kind theatrical benefit featured singing, dancing, and comedy routines from some of Canada's finest professional theatrical talent. All event proceeds were designated to the Goderich Tornado Relief Fund administered by the United Way Perth-Huron.

Cristie's Cause

Melloul-Blamey's commitment to community betterment extends to the entire staff, as evidenced by an initiative called Cristie's Cause.  Melloul-Blamey's President implemented a $10,000 matching program to inspire employees to work together and raise funds for a local family that required a customized van with lift in order to accommodate a wheelchair. The employees rallied with a live and silent auction, spaghetti dinner, and other camraderie-filled events, netting $50,000 towards the purchase of this vehicle. Previously housebound, as a result, this family is now able to explore everything Waterloo Region has to offer, from live theatre to farmer's markets.
