Founders Bernie and David began their succession planning right from the beginning and while they are still very much involved in the company, the next generation holds key positions in the management structure, providing direct executive involvement in every step of the project - whether it is business development, project development, estimating or construction. Melloul-Blamey's owners take active roles and full responsibility for the success of your project.

Joel MelloulJoel M. Melloul, BASc
President, CEO

Being part of the founding family, Joel has been exposed to all facets of the construction industry for most of his life. From childhood summer employment, to university co-op terms, to junior office staff right through to leading the estimating department, Joel has gained a significant breadth of experience in both the field and the office.

His degree in Civil Engineering from University of Waterloo provided Joel with the problem solving skills needed to help advance and grow the corporation beyond its original business model.   With Joel's caring and continuous eye for betterment and through his close monitoring of results, the founding fathers are confident that with his stewardship the second generation will continue to serve and prosper by upholding the established original values of honesty, integrity and pride of workmanship.

Jeffrey HeimpelJeffrey Heimpel
Vice President, Business Development

 An education in Construction Engineering Technology has led Jeff to many positions within this demanding industry. Part of the Melloul-Blamey team since 1993, Jeff has a strong working knowledge of development and has held many roles within the firm.

His soft-spoken manner, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and tremendous listening skills make him a natural at business development. These attributes set the wheels in motion for each project with incredible efficiency - and subsequently often result in substantial savings for clients/owners.

Jeff's easy rapport and professionalism have earned him great respect and many friends with cross-generational ease. He is also very well-known in his community as an active player in Rotary, tourism promotion, Chamber of Commerce efforts, and economic development through Canada's Technology Triangle. His many associations have allowed Jeff to assist clients with financing options, delivery methods, and connections to the real estate community, maximizing proper return on investment. His assistance has enabled many owners to develop their own pre-construction budgets and preliminary designs.

Jeffrey ShantzJeffrey B. Shantz, GSC
Vice President, Project Development

In modern Construction Management, building design and project development go hand in hand, and this division is led by industry leader Jeff Shantz. With more than 20 years of experience in all facets of the construction industry, including site supervision, project management and building design, Jeff is in high demand with a growing list of building clients.

With a refreshing no-nonsense approach and a passion for finishing strong, Jeff's fingerprints are all over many award-winning buildings. He has hundreds of thousands of square feet of quality structures under his leadership. Outstanding facilities such as the Home Hardware Limited in St Jacobs, Coldwell-Banker Peter Benninger Realty Office complex in Kitchener, and B-K BMW, Volvo, Mini, Land-Rover in Waterloo, are just a sampling of his varied accomplishments.

An exciting series of multi-million dollar projects are on the horizon, and Jeff is racking up an impressive reputation as the best in the business. His diverse experience allows him to enter into agreements with great confidence and an uncanny accuracy at determining his clients' needs.

Steve HanleySteve Hanley, GSC
Vice President, Construction

Like his partners, Steve has deep roots in the community and the construction industry. Upon joining Melloul-Blamey in 1994, Steve gained substantial experience as Project Manager and Estimator, personally responsible for over $700 million in business. Throughout his post-secondary education in Construction Engineering Technology, Steve was a multiple award-winner, including the highest academic honours award in his graduating year.

His lifelong experience in construction is utilized while overseeing the entire construction team including contracts, legal and safety departments. This attention to detail isn't lost in his personal time, as he serves his community and other organizations being involved on many boards, associations and program advisory committees.

Bernard Melloul

Bernard J. J. Melloul, GSC
Chairman, founder

 As founding President of Melloul-Blamey, Bernie Melloul has built a company with a 'Stirling' reputation. His vast experience has seen the construction of schools, hospitals, nursing homes, arenas and industrial facilities all over Ontario.

Bernie and David Blamey initially started out as a two-man shop, finding and completing multiple projects, while astutely growing a humble business into a major force in the construction industry.

Bernie adopts a management style that attracts quality, loyal employees - true experts in their respective disciplines - who find longstanding homes. Many Melloul-Blamey employees are in their second decade with the company, which is a tremendous accomplishment for an industry rife with high employee turn-over rates and regularly in dire need of qualified, competent labourers and trades people.

Bernie has been recognized with many industry and community awards, primarily for his encouragement of expanding education within the industry. He has a strong safety record and a passionate commitment for the orderly transition of a 10-year succession plan, thereby ensuring the company's strength for many more years.
